Dumfries & Galloway College

Dumfries

DESCRIPTION:

Appointed as civil and structural engineers for the new college at Crichton Campus, Dumfries to replace the existing facility.

INVOLVEMENT:

Duties included geotechnical/ground engineering, the design of foundations, structural steelwork, concrete slabs, basement retaining walls, underground drainage, roads and carparking.

CHALLENGES:

The new College Campus is located on a undulating contoured site that required careful consideration for the building’s location and ground floor levels to provide the most economical earthworks solution.  In addition the existing minor road that forms the access to the development required upgrading to allow for the increase in traffic, including bus routes. This required close liaison with the local authority to enable a workable solution while maintaining access to the existing properties.

BENEFITS TO CLIENT:

The new College replaces older fragmented buildings and provides a high quality facility to students within an extremely large catchment area in the south of Scotland.
