St Patrick’s Primary School

West Scotland

DESCRIPTION:

One of two schools procured through Hub West Scotland for the participant Inverclyde Council.  The existing school will be demolished providing space for the new two storey structure and therefore pupils and staff will be relocated during the works.

The existing sports pitch will be replaced with a new 3G pitch.

INVOLVEMENT:

Civil and structural design including underground drainage and football pitch.  The structural form comprises a structural steel frame with the first floor being constructed using insitu concrete on metal decking.  The substructure comprises reinforced concrete pad foundations bearing on the natural soils.

CHALLENGES:

The site occupies an elevated position and therefore a steep access road has to be agreed with the local Roads Authority.  The gradient of the access road dictated the earthworks quantities for the whole site.  Agreeing optimum levels was key to keeping project costs within budget.

BENEFITS TO CLIENT:

High quality Primary School that will be a great improvement on the previous facility and the surrounding area.
