Struer are delighted to learn that our clients at the Citizens Theatre have secured vital funding towards the restoration of this much-loved Glasgow landmark.
The design team for the project is led by project managers TX2 and includes Bennetts Associates as the Architects. Struer have been involved in the early design phases and substantial pre-construction planning required for a project of this nature. The project is now out to competitive Tender and we look forward to this challenging project commencing on site.
The project involves a radical re-working of the Citizens Theatre’s buildings and has an estimated cost of £19.4m, which includes a construction cost of £14.5m
The transformation of the front-of-house spaces will create a vibrant, accessible social gathering place that properly supports the breadth of work and the ethos of the Theatre affectionately known as “The Citz”
A new street frontage and foyer spaces will replace the Theatre’s lacklustre entrance building on Gorbals Street. Audiences will enter the auditorium through its iconic stone gable and new accommodation will be provided for studio theatre, rehearsals, learning and events.
Actors’ facilities, backstage areas and construction workshops will be improved through reorganisation and refurbishment, whilst public access will extend further into the building where the public can see the inner workings of the theatre and its heritage; the historic stage machinery, paint frame and construction workshops.
Construction is currently programmed between September 2018 and June 2020.
