DESCRIPTION:
Restoration of Kirkintilloch Town Hall to create a new landmark venue at the heart of Kirkintilloch Town Centre. The building will accommodate the East Dunbartonshire Leisure & Culture Trust.
INVOLVEMENT:
Appointed as civil and structural engineers on this part refurbishment part new build project. The refurbishment includes the removal of existing floors and the installation of new floors, while the new build to the north comprises a steel framed structure supported on pad foundations.
CHALLENGES:
Working on a building which has been derelict for 10 years with the resultant degradation of the main stone façade and timber roof.
BENEFITS TO CLIENT:
The new venue will make a significant contribution to Kirkintilloch Town Centre’s regeneration by introducing a new type of use into the heart of the centre which will contribute to the day time and evening economy. As well as helping to create vibrancy and vitality, the restored and extended building will contribute towards an improved sense of place and identity for the town centre.
