Sweet Street

Leeds

DESCRIPTION:

Residential development comprising four independent buildings between seven and nine storeys, of varying size and shapes of footprints, located near to Leeds City centre. The main residential towers were constructed off a reinforced concrete podium deck at first floor level below with undercroft car parking provided for the residents.

INVOLVEMENT:

Civil and structural design.  The structural form above the podium deck was of structural steelwork with conventional insitu concrete composite floors with steel downstand beams and a lightweight clad roof.

CHALLENGES:

The project involved a 3rd party structural engineer who designed the podium structure. Struer worked proactively with the podium designer to produce a “value engineered” steel structure for the upper levels.

BENEFITS TO CLIENT:

The decision to make the upper levels a steel frame simplified details and reduced man hours on site significantly. This had a positive impact on programme and a substantial cost saving.
