Medius Office Development

PACIFIC QUAY, GLASGOW

DESCRIPTION:

This modern three storey office building is situated in Pacific Quay’s Digital Media Quarter adjacent to Glasgow Science Centre and the Princes Dock on the River Clyde.

INVOLVEMENT:

Struer were involved in the successful design and installation of a unique piled foundation solution which adopted the new technology of sonic drilling to help combat the difficult ground conditions.

The sub-structure and ground floor were raised to suit extreme high tide levels while also accommodating the required retention, supporting the steelwork frame and providing the required ground gas protection measures.

The structural form is a vertically braced steel frame with composite concrete floor slabs supporting the office levels and plant rooftop. The clean, crisp elevations were achieved through a mix of curtain walling and Alucobond cladding panels.

CHALLENGES:

The main site challenges related to the position of a number of buried constraints; tie rods, thrust blocks, quay walls, concrete revetments etc. These issues were overcome with detailed pre planning and numerous exploration pits and surveying.

BENEFITS TO CLIENT:

An economically engineered, open, flexible building structure which provides a high specification work space.
